A special congratulations to Cohen Trolio for his exciting trip to the semifinals of the 2019 USGA Men’s Amateur, held at Pinehurst #2 and #4. The recently turned 17 year-old and rising high school junior from West Point, MS, finished tied for third in a field that started with over 7000 of the top amateurs around the world. All of the initial matches were held at Pinehurst #2, playing over 7500 yards and easily one of the most difficult golf courses in the country.
Cohen won the Mississippi qualifier at Reunion in Jackson with rounds of 67, 67, 10 under. He then qualified for one of the 64 match play spots in a field of 312 and won four matches before being eliminated by the eventual winner of the tournament. Cohen has been around just as long as the Putting Arc (17 years) and we are all very proud of him!
West Point and Old Waverly Golf Club was the site of the 2019 USGA Women’s Amateur and is the home of the Putting Arc.
Congratulations to Doug Barron for his wire-to wire Champions Tour win at the Dick’s Sporting Goods Open, held at the En-Joi Golf Club in Endicott, NY. It was only his second Champions Tour tournament, and he had to pre-qualify, then Monday qualify to even get into the tournament. He is the first senior golfer in history to Monday qualify and then win a tournament wire-to-wire.
Finally, congratulations to Trey Mixon, Macon, GA and Morgan Ellison, Peachtree City, GA for their Southeastern Junior Golf Tournament’s Dalton Junior Classic, held last weekend at the Dalton, GA. Trey shot 68, 67 and Morgan shot 73, 74.
